I guess when it’s all said and done, my low times have always stemmed from bouts of low self esteem, high expectations and self-imposed isolation.
My chosen career path, discovered at age 30, has involved travelling a path less worn. Now don’t get me wrong, this is not all bad, but this path can get a little isolated. I feel this was a major contributing factor to my depression.
Being able to talk and spend time with like-minded people, if only for short periods, has definitely been a solution for me. Tough times are felt by more than just you. Similar people share similar problems. We are all in this together regardless of career or individual life choices. Actioning realistic positive thoughts/ideas that could prevent a low time are a must.
A loving and understanding partner and family, along with persistence, has helped me stay on track for a little while now, which is good. I have also more recently let some ‘barriers’ down, enabling my path to be a little more trodden.
Live simple, stay happy.
